THEMEMADE BYLOSTMEMENTO

I am so disgusted by this guy. He fucking goes to an abortion clinic and takes pictures of the people there. Basically, some weird ass bible thumping white savior decided to stalk and manipulate people at an abortion clinic.

I don’t even have a damn twitter but I want to make one just so that I can tell him to shut the fuck up.

Why I don’t like the phrase “The War on Women”

keepyourboehneroutofmyuterus:

I wrote this over at my blog. It’s a long post, so I’ll just put here on KYBOOMU the three main reasons I have a problem with the phrase “the war on women”:

  1. WOW is cissexist and erases the lived realities of plenty of people.
  2. WOW flattens all people affected by anti-choice measures into a single, equal category despite HUGE differences in how the so-called WOW affects people based on race, class, etc.
  3. WOW makes this seem like this is an issue that is just about the ladies.

Doctors Could Tell Women That Abortion Causes Breast Cancer Under New Hampshire Bill - The Frisky

thefrisky:

Another day, another new height reached in WTF-ery: New Hampshire’s state House has advanced a bill that would require doctors to give women “informational materials” before an abortion that “that inform the pregnant woman that there is a direct link between abortion and breast cancer.” Even though there isn’t.

Researchers debunk study linking abortions to mental health issues

safe-legal-abortion-is-prolife:

“Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and The Guttmacher Institute debunked a 2009 study in the Journal of Psychiatric Research linking abortions to mental health issues.

In a press release Monday morning, the editor of the journal agreed with the new analysis that found fundamental analytical errors in the study. UCSF’s Julia Steinberg and Guttmacher’s Lawrence Finer sent the editor a letter in the March 2012 edition of the journal, chastising the original study’s top figure, Priscilla Coleman, and her colleagues’ work for fundamental analytical errors.

“This is not a scholarly difference of opinion, their facts were flatly wrong,” Steinberg said. “This was an abuse of the scientific process to reach conclusions that are not supported by the data. The shifting explanations and misleading statements that they offered over the past two years served to mask their serious methodological errors.

Anti-abortion activists have cited Coleman’s research as helping in their propaganda, with the faulty information also spread by federally and state-funded crisis pregnancy centers.”

Arizona Senate Passes Bill Allowing Doctors To Not Inform Women Of Prenatal Issues To Prevent Abortions

unauthorizedautobiography:

“The Arizona Senate passed a bill this week that gives doctors a free pass to not inform pregnant women of prenatal problems because such information could lead to an abortion. In other words, doctors can intentionally keep critical health information from pregnant women and can’t be sued for it.”

March 3rd, 2012

More than 30 activists have been arrested for refusing to leave the Virginia Capitol steps during a protest of anti-abortion legislation.

Virginia Capitol Police Capt. Raymond Goodloesays 31 protesters were arrested Saturday. The demonstrators were some of an estimated 500 people who had gathered to protest legislation like a bill that passed the General Assembly earlier in the week that requires an ultrasound before an abortion.

The group had a permit to rally at the Bell Tower on Capitol Square, but Goodloe said rallies are not allowed on the Capitol steps.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/ye99lx) that police with plastic shields held demonstrators at bay while armed officers arrested protesters, who sat on the steps with locked arms.

A Personhood Amendment, for Ladies: SIGN PETITION AND SIGNAL BOOST

keepyourboehneroutofmyuterus:

PLEASE SIGN and SIGNAL BOOST!!

From Shakesville:

Shaker ma_am recently suggested, in response to the onslaught of anti-choice legislation that includes encroachments on reproductive rights that undermine the autonomy of women and other people with uteri as well as proposed “Personhood Amendments” to confer personhood on fetuses, that we need a Personhood Amendment for women and other people with uteri to establish our rights as autonomous people. I suggested we compose the amendment, and then try to get a clever Democratic Senator to introduce it into the US Senate.

So we did!

And then we composed a petition, and ma_am launched it at Change.org.

Here is our prosed Personhood Amendment:

A person identifying as a woman and/or having a uterus shall retain all of the full, basic, and fundamental rights of a US citizen as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Congress and the States shall make no law that infringes upon a person’s life, including but not limited to access to life-saving or life-improving healthcare, and/or medicines and procedures deemed necessary or beneficial by a medical professional and/or by the person having the uterus, procurement of which shall not by denied in and of itself by the presence of a uterus. Congress and the States shall make no law that infringes upon a person’s liberty, including but not limited to autonomy over hir own body and the ability to make decisions regarding hir own healthcare. Congress and the States shall make no law that interferes with a person’s pursuit of happiness, including but not limited to access to a full spectrum of reproductive options, freedom from forcible reproduction, and the ability to make decisions regarding family planning and family resources.

Please sign the petition in support of the Personhood Amendment here. Once it has 1,000 signatures, it will be delivered to Senators Patty Murray (WA), Al Franken (MN), and Kristen Gillibrand (NY) with a request to introduce the proposed amendment into the legislative session.

And please spread the word about the petition via social networking sites. Let’s change this conversation. It’s time to change “women’s rights are human rights” from a radical statement to settled fact.

[As the amendment makes clear, this issue of personhood (and all anti-choice bills) affect more people than just cis women]

Women’s PAC formed following abortion legislation

keepyourboehneroutofmyuterus:

A group of women has formed a new political action committee to recruit and support candidates to defeat elected officials who back the ultrasound and so-called personhood bills.

Women’s Strike Force, which boasts several former elected officials, formed after Virginia spent last week in national headlines for its attempt to require women to undergo mandatory trans-vaginal ultrasounds before an abortion.

“As a former member of the General Assembly and Virginia’s first woman in Congress, I fought for women’s rights in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s,” Leslie Byrne said in a statement. “We must move the commonwealth and the nation forward, not backslide to denying women rights.”

This is amazing and I’m pleased to see people reacting in this way.

[NB: It’s more than just cis women’s rights that are backsliding. Also, I keep saying this, but this is not simply the burden of ladies. I appreciate and am pleased that (cis) women are leading the charge but this should really be everyone’s concern.]

Pennsylvania State-Sanctioned Rape Law is Most Cruel Yet

stfuconservatives:

keepyourboehneroutofmyuterus:

Holy fucking christ.

At the link, there is a petition to sign and information about who in Pennsylvania to contact to voice your displeasure or rage.

Nobody fucking trusts pregnant people to know that they are in fact pregnant. These ultrasound laws are invasive, disgusting and demeaning. From the article:

In addition to mandating the much-maligned transvaginal ultrasound requirements since rejected by the state of Virginia, Pennsylvania legislators proposed strongly encouraging women to view and listen to the ultrasounds, forcing technicians to give the women personalized copies of the results and mandating how long before any abortion the ultrasound much be preformed — and that’s just for starters.”

What purpose does this serve other than to shame women into having unwanted babies? None, that’s what.

The pro-choice movement opposes forced ultrasounds because they override the doctor’s discretion and the doctor-patient relationship, in a manner that is not only condescending to the woman’s preferred course of action, but also often requires a greater outlay of time, sometimes an entire extra day, as well as money. Not only do they not change anyone’s mind, ultrasounds stigmatize and intimidate women who are already under stress.

The War on Women (people with uteri) infographic, put together by NARAL.

And the attack seems to have ramped up even more for 2012.  They are REALLY making a big push here across the board, and it seems coordinated and well organized.  We have to double down on our own efforts to fight this crap with equal energy every time it pops up.  This is a “war” that they can not be allowed to win.  ~ Steve

House Passes H.R. 358, the “Let Women Die” Act of 2011

destroythegop:

Today the GOP-led House of Representatives, with the blessings and encouragement of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and extremist religious groups such as the Family Research Council, passed a bill in a vote of 251 to 172 that would, among other things, allow doctors and hospitals to “exercise their conscience” by letting pregnant women people facing emergency medical conditions die.

Yes. Die.

So… what now prevents House Republicans from imposing their mandate to let your wife, girlfriend, daughter, sister, aunt or niece family and friends with uteri be denied life-saving emergency care?

From the same article:

President Obama has said he would veto the bill if it were to reach his desk.

It appears that it has yet to be voted upon in the Senate. Find out if your representative voted yes/no on this bill.
