
I like to think that all of these photos are taken in the same field. That there’s a field somewhere where you can go any day, any time, and find a handful of skinny white settled girls with ridiculous, racist outfits and overdone makeup, wandering around aimlessly, drawn there by some migratory instinct, like a flock of strange, disaffected-looking birds. And that photographers come from all over the world not to shoot fashion photography, but to document this phenomenon, for anthropological studies and the like, and that somewhere a bunch of academics studying these girls silently cry in frustration when their efforts at educating the public about this get mistaken for fashion photography.
It’s an amusing fiction that I use sometimes to stop myself from dedicating the rest of my life to tracking down and smacking the shit out of every silly gadje who thinks doing a “gypsy”-themed photoshoot in a field would be a good idea.
